Stock theft on the increase
Northam – Farmers in Northam and surrounds are reporting an increase in stock theft. In the latest incident [Wednesday 24 February], 44 goats and sheep were stolen. “We want to urge farmers to be extra vigilant. Ensure that your livestock is marked according to regulations. Check your fences regularly for any damages and look out for unknown footprints,” Heritage Protection Group representative Johan Young said.

Op Saterdag 6 Februarie moes lede van die Gemeenskap Polisiëring Forum (GPF) sowat R2,000 aan diesel spandeer vir trekkers, ‘n TLB en bakkies om voertuie uit die modder uit te sleep op Kromdraai se servituut paaie. Van dieselfde mense het teen Sondag steeds gedink dat hul 4x4 voertuie die mas sal opkom, maar moes toe rooi in die gesig staan terwyl hulle weereens uit die modder uitgetrek was. Waarskuwing: Jy gaan self verantwoordelik gehou word vir die kostes van brandstof om jou uit te trek as jy sulke kanse vat.

Brits – A 32-year-old man rammed his car into the stationery vehicle of two traffic officers in Majakaneng during the early hours of Sunday morning 7 February. The man, who emerged unharmed and has since been arrested for reckless and drunken driving, could face additional charges related to violating the lockdown curfew.

Lephalale – One of the major watermelon growers in the country has ignored a compliance notice issued by the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) and is to appear in court on Friday 5 February. The state has accused Johan and Carel Roos of environmental crimes committed at farm Manchester 16LQ, Stockpoort, Limpopo [close to the Botswana border].
