Thabazimbi – Community members feel comfortable going to the Thabazimbi Police Station, where the police officers put their concerns first.

Whether you visit them to report a case or get your documents certified, they make an effort to attend to your needs in a professional manner. Don’t misjudge them by their friendliness, they are also hardened crime-fighting machines who are committed to protect their community and ensure that the rule of law is upheld. For the officers at the Thabazimbi Police Station, it is not a 9 to 5 job, but a lifestyle of service, holding hands with security groups and community members.

Platinum Bushvelder caught up with some of the officers, who shared their concerns and thoughts about the collective fight against crime. Constable Ashley Maropola said: “I am urging the community to stop domestic violence. As men, we have to care for women by protecting them. Please stop hurting women, children, and the elderly. Break the silence! If you are a victim, please do not hesitate to come to us so that we assist you.”

Sergeant Edwin Papo reminded community members to keep within the confines of the law. “If you commit a crime, you will get caught and arrested. Prevention is better than cure. If you do not commit a crime, you to do not have to do time. Crime does not pay.” Constable Michael Molomo urged residents to be alert and vigilant to avoid housebreaking incidents. “Get to know your neighbours as well as the telephone numbers of the police station so that we can assist you when you need help.”

The high incidents of alcohol and drug abuse in some areas in Thabazimbi is of great concern to constable Boitumelo Dibyane. “When I drive around Thabazimbi, I often witness women walking around in a drunken stupor. What is particularly concerning is that some of them even have small children with them. Please think about how your actions impact your children’s future. Please do not walk alone at night.”
