Functions of the TLM councillors 

Thabazimbi – Last week, the office of the speaker requested residents to update their details at the accounts department of the municipality. 

We are grateful for those who have already done so.
The community is reminded of the responsibilities of a ward councillor and ward committee members. The function of a ward councillor is to act as a representative of all residents staying in the ward.

The ward councillor was elected by the majority of residents of the ward to perform that function. Ward councillors must represent the community of the ward on the municipal council, inform which council decisions have been made and assist when problems arise in the ward.

The ward councillor is supported by the ward committee that was elected from the residents of the ward. The ward committee consists of no more than ten members representing different portfolios and they serve as the link between the ward residents and ward councillor. Residents must approach the ward councillor and/ or ward committee members to report service delivery issues.

Make sure of the ward in which you live. For example, the town of Thabazimbi is divided into three wards. Ward 2 is a portion of Thabazimbi town and Rooiberg; Ward 9 is a portion of Thabazimbi town and Ipelegeng; and Ward 12 is a portion of Thabazimbi town and Regorogile.

Community members are requested to use all legislative structures.

There is a tendency that residents of the total Thabazimbi Local Municipality hold only one or two ward councillors accountable for the most problems in the overall municipal area. For effective service delivery and responsible government, it is critical that the elected and established structures are used correctly and sincerely.
