OPERATION FIELA SWEEP

Limpopo – Conceived with the best of  policing intentions, Operation Fiela II is sweeping through the criminal underworld like a new broom.

Figures released by the police on Monday, 23 April, confirm that one thousand and ninety-eight (1098) suspects were arrested by the police during the multidisciplinary and intelligence driven joint operations conducted in the province.

According to lieutenant colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, police spokesperson, these operations which consist of various policing units, were conducted in a concerted effort to uproot and deal with the common criminals and crime tendencies in all the policing clusters.

As part of the operations, one illegal shebeen was shut down. The police also recovered 1× 500 metres of Eskom electricity cables and 67 undocumented foreigners were arrested at the Beitbridge boarder post. In Northam, Polokwane and Thabazimbi, 30 suspects aged 20 to 46 years were arrested for the possession of suspected stolen property, the possession of unlicensed firearms, dealing and possession of drugs and dagga.
