Wrong turn causes long haul

Thabazimbi – A truck with a low bed blocked the R511 road on Thursday 26 August. According to an eyewitness, the truck missed the Bela-Bela turnoff and attempted to turn around when it got stuck.

The truck driver tested his driving skills and unfortunately came short. Because the shoulder next to the road is lower, the lowbed got stuck on the road and disconnected from the truck as the front end went through the dip.

Thaba Fire and Rescue responded to the scene to help. “We would like to urge truck drivers to check their surroundings before they attempt to turn. Also, it is vital that you ensure that it is done in a safe area and that you can clearly see any oncoming traffic,” Thaba Rescue and Fire’s Pierre Loots said.
