Mother, daughter found dead: suspect arrested 

Brits – Evidence gathered by the police at a house where a woman and her daughter were murdered proved crucial in apprehending a 45-year old suspect who has been linked to the crimes. 

The suspect, who is now being tried at the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrates’ Court, was arrested within a week of committing the crimes and now faces two counts of murder and burglary charges. 

The bodies of the two women were discovered inside a house in Hebron near Brits on Saturday 11 January at around 14:00. 

Police spokesperson colonel Adéle Myburgh said the two bodies were discovered by one of the victim’s other daughters.  

“She arrived home and realised that the kitchen burglar bars, and wooden doors were broken. As she entered the house, she saw her 68-year old mother’s body lying motionless in a pool of blood,” Myburgh said. 

She added “police, who had been called to the scene, also discovered the body of a 34-year old woman whose hands and feet were tied up.” 

The two victims were declared dead at the crime scene by emergency medical and rescue services (EMRS). 

Investigations by the police’s provincial organised crime unit, Brits trio task team, Hebron detectives, Brits Operational Command Centre Unit (OCCU) and other departments resulted in the arrest of the suspect on 18 January. 

The suspect will also be tried for burglary after items such as a plasma television, DVD Player and the victims’ cellular phones were found missing from the scene. 
The items are all estimated to be worth R25 000.

The North West provincial commissioner, lieutenant general Sello Kwena congratulated the members on a job well done.

“Will continue the fight against crime, especially against the vulnerable and leave no stone unturned
in ensuring that those who commit crime are tracked down and arrested,” he added.
