Huge turnout at TLM public consultation

Northam – On Tuesday 19 November scores of residents turned up in Northam to take part in the Thabazimbi Local Municipality’s (TLM) integrated development plan (IDP) public participation consultation.  

During the meeting, the municipal manager George Ramagaga, provided feedback on the previous meeting and reiterated that the local government body had put the repairing of streetlights high on its agenda. 

The municipality’s director for community services Segale Pilane was officially introduced to Northam residents. 

Issues such as illegal buildings, poor service delivery in areas such as Wildebeestlaagte as well as the lack of proper traffic management in Northam were raised by residents. High water charges, potholes and very few road signs on roads as well as a shortage of dustbins were highlighted.   

In response, director for planning and economic development Lindiwe Makaya urged residents to assist the municipality in identifying illegally built structures. 

Executive mayor of Thabazimbi councillor John Michael Fischer said a workshop to educate ward councillors on the municipal by-laws would be held soon. He urged all ward councillors to hold regular community meetings to create a platform for people to remain in touch with the municipality.
