Casino heist foiled

Polokwane – On Sunday 10 November, a crime intelligence-driven operation by police in Burgersfort prevented a group of armed men from robbing a casino and other business premises in the area.

A 35-year old man was arrested after police acted on a community tip-off. 
The police foiled the robbery moments before the gang pounced. 

Police spokesperson brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said crime intelligence, detectives and other law enforcement units played a key role in this operation. 

He said police identified the two vehicles, a Toyota Hilux and a Ford Ranger, as they were traveling along the R37 towards the casino.

“One of the suspects was arrested. He was found in possession of a firearm with the serial number filed off as well as live ammunition,” Motlafela said. 

Police have increased visibility and intensified their operations as the festive season approaches. 
Recently, a total of 246 suspects were arrested for various offences in Limpopo.

The police recovered 17 firearms, nine motor vehicles, televisions, cellphones, laptops, knives as well as an unspecified amount of cash from the arrested suspects.

The suspects face various charges ranging from murder, attempted murder, house robbery, rape, theft  and burglary to possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
