Rhinos enter history books

Northam – Although the Northam Rhinos lost their match against the Newrak Impala 1st Rugby team with a score of 69-21 on Saturday, 14 October in Rustenburg – they still made history!  

The Northam Rhinos was the first Limpopo team to win a match in the Gold Cup (previously Community Cup) tournament when they beat Vaal Reefs (North West) in their first match. 

More history was in the making when they won their second match against Old Georgians (Zimbabwe), followed by another victory against Raiders (Golden Lions). In doing so, they qualified for the top 8 (in SA) play-offs with a match to spare in the tournament! They won QBR at the Setaria Rec Club on Saturday, 7 October and from thereon they faced Impala in Rustenburg.  

“I am extremely proud of my team members,” Flip de Kock, head coach of the Northam Rhinos said in an interview with the Platinum Bushvelder newspaper. “We worked really hard to make the top eight in the entire country for club rugby. Next year we’ll even work harder. Our men showed leadership and character throughout the tournament. It is a real pleasure working with them.” 

In the last game against Impala, Wouter de Villiers (inside centre, no 12) and Attie Louw (no8) impressed with their performance. 

Under the wings of Flip de Kock and Zander de Kock, captain, this team will reach even greater heights.
