Let’s work together

Northam – Following the spate of crime in Northam recently, the Northam police station commander lieutenant Jeffrey Ramatsitisi called a community meeting on 6 September to strategise a plan to fight crime.  

During the meeting, police members and farmers – particularly hailing from Wildebeeslaagte – made practical plans to combat crime in the area. Concerns were raised and solutions were formulated.

 
Community members in the Wildebeeslaagte area have established a community policing forum (CPF). Men and women who patrol the area, in collaboration with the Northam police, keep a watchful eye.

Following in their footsteps, the community of the reconstruction and development programme (RDP) formed their own CPF group. At the meeting, they also pledged their commitment to combat crime in cooperation with the police. 

The Smashblock community, just outside Northam, has followed suit and formed their own CPF group to keep their own neighbourhood safe. 

“We need the communities to join forces with us in our fight against crime. We cannot let it get the better of Northam and our surrounding areas. I know that together, we can bring about a positive change,” said station commander Ramatsitisi in an interview with Platinum Bushvelder.
