Local lads going to the UK

Northam – Local Northam soccer players Lee-Shae Rensburg and Kirwin Rensburg is part of the Atletico Football Club in Rustenburg.

An awesome opportunity has arisen and the team will be participating in the Manchester Easter International Cup… A youth event that includes coaching, clinics and great exposure.

Players, parents and club management mobilised and began a long journey to work towards a goal that would inevitably be a life-changing experience for a team of u/15 football players. This remarkable team of 13 players, their coach and Kurk Rensburg, the two boys’ father, boarded their flight to the UK on Tuesday 16 April.

During their send-off ceremony on Sunday 14 April in Rustenburg, club founder Eddie Pienaar said: “It is not always about talent; it is about drive. We must teach our kids to aim higher. In the beginning it seemed impossible...

All we had is hope. With enough drive we managed to make the impossible possible. We want to change the lives of these 13 boys by giving them the chance to experience a new country and make their world a little bigger.”

The club was founded by Eddie Pienaar with a vision for youth development and community upliftment. The club aims to teach young lads about discipline, respect, vision and sportsmanship – essential to character development.
