TRAPPED IN TERROR Woman Survives Domestic Violence Attack  

Northam – A chilling domestic violence incident in Northam nearly turned fatal when a 32-year-old man allegedly attempted to kill his female friend by setting her home ablaze.

According to brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the ordeal began on Monday, 18 August 2025, when the suspect visited the victim at her house in New Stand, Smash Block. After she asked him to leave and he refused, the victim left for the night. But when she returned the next day, she found him waiting.

Inside the house, the suspect reportedly locked the burglar door, doused the room with a flammable liquid, drank some himself, and opened a gas cylinder. He allegedly told the victim he intended to kill her. The two fought over matches until the victim managed to throw them outside. Her desperate screams for help brought neighbours rushing in to rescue her.

Police were called to the scene and opened a case of attempted murder. The suspect was arrested and is currently under police guard at a local hospital. He is expected to appear in the Northam Magistrate’s Court soon.
