Rhinos set to clash with Stilfontein Hurricanes this weekend!

Setaria – In a spirited rugby encounter, the Northam Platinum Rhinos Rugby Club took on the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in a friendly match at Bushveld Park in Setaria on Saturday 3 February 2024. The game ended with a challenging scoreline but offered valuable insights for the Rhinos.

Despite a promising start that saw the teams tied at 14-14 by halftime, adjustments in the second half saw UJ pulling ahead to secure a 60-14 victory. 

Jannie Cronje, the chairperson of the Rhinos, expressed pride in the team’s performance, emphasising the game’s role in evaluating player positions and strategies. “It was a good trial match, and we feel satisfied with our players. But I am very proud of our men, and they gave their all for the league.” 

The match also highlighted the depth of the Rhino’s squad, with 14 players absent due to their participation in the Cape Town 10s and other responsibilities. This provided a unique opportunity for other team members to shine and demonstrate their capabilities on the field.

Looking forward, the Northam Platinum Rhinos are gearing up for an exciting confrontation against the Stilfontein Hurricanes. The match, involving all three Rhino teams, is scheduled for Saturday 10 February 2024, at the Hurricanes’ home grounds.
