Setaria’s heartfelt response to TAR’s caring quest

Thabazimbi/ Setaria - In 2010, a beacon of hope for animals in distress was established: the Thabazimbi Animal Rescue (TAR). This registered non-profit organisation has been steadfast in its mission to rescue and rehome animals in need. Each week, TAR confronts a challenging reality, receiving numerous reports of animal abuse which they diligently investigate.

For stray animals, TAR follows a thorough process. Each animal is first taken to a veterinary practice for a complete check-up. Here, they are examined, dewormed, vaccinated, and treated for any medical conditions. Only after this essential healthcare are they taken to TAR’s welcoming kennels.
Recognising the shelter’s pressing needs, two compassionate Setaria community members, Michelle Smit and Yolandi Munnik, decided to make a difference. They embarked on a heartfelt mission to raise funds and gather food for these vulnerable animals. Yolandi dedicated her efforts to collect animal food from generous locals from 23 October to 2 December, while Michelle sold Christian-themed keychains and wristbands as a fundraising initiative.

Their dedication inspired others in the Setaria community, leading to further cash donations. On Friday, 1 December 2023, Michelle and Yolandi visited TAR at 1 Stasie Avenue, bearing not only the pet food collected through their initiative but also the additional funds raised.

“We simply couldn’t have achieved this without the kind-hearted people of Setaria. I’m committed to fulfilling all that the Lord inspires in my heart, and this initiative was certainly one of those divine callings.” said Yolandi. “We recognised that the festive season was not far off, meaning that the shelter’s resources would be at a low, so we decided to take action,” added Michelle.  

With much love and tail-wagging greetings, TAR extends its gratitude to the Setaria community. Their open-hearted contributions of food and funds have made a significant difference in the lives of the animals under TAR’s care. TAR wishes blessings, love, and prosperity to everyone who contributed, acknowledging the powerful impact of their support.
