Parents and children in need, what to do?  [Letter to the Editor] 

Thabazimbi - Occasionally, I encounter a mother walking with her toddler, seeking financial assistance. Recognising the challenges they face, the question arises: How can we provide meaningful help to such individuals? #WhatToDo? 

Platinum Bushvelder reached out to Thabazimbi SAVF chairperson Annali Connear, who offered the following guidance: “If a parent is using a child as a means to solicit money, you can contact the SAVF. The person reporting only needs to provide the parent and child’s location. The Thabazimbi SAVF will conduct an assessment to determine how to assist. Depending on the assessment, if the child is within Thabazimbi’s jurisdiction, the Thabazimbi SAVF can place them in a safe environment. If both the parent and child require assistance, we have a place of safety for them in Ellisras. We arrange transportation to the safe haven, where they receive support and guidance towards self-sufficiency.
For cases outside our Thabazimbi jurisdiction, the Department of Social Development (DSD), which covers areas like Dwaalboom, Northam, and Regorogile, should be contacted.
