A slithering surprise!

Thabazimbi – A local resident on Arend Avenue was met with a slithering surprise on the sunny morning of 1 October 2023. The man had just parked his bakkie in the garage when a curious noise near the dry dog food grabbed his attention. “At first, I thought it was a dove, as they often sneak in for a snack,” said the resident.

However, as he moved closer to investigate and free the bird, the rearing head of an approximately 1.2-metre-long unidentified cobra greeted him, suspected to have slithered in from the nearby mountain. A quick call for help was made, but the sneaky serpent managed a swift escape back to its mountainous home.

“As the warm embrace of higher temperatures graces the region, encounters of the slithering kind are anticipated to rise. Residents are urged to exercise caution. Awareness and knowledge about the local snake population can prove pivotal in ensuring safety,” says Petrus van Breda.
