Local philanthropist gives aid to university students

Thabazimbi – “Students are our future leaders therefore they should be a priority, especially less fortunate students,” said Aubrey Senyolo in a brief interview with Platinum Bushvelder on Tuesday 13 June 2023. Aubrey, locally known as ‘Mr Airtime’ continues to make a positive difference.

Aubrey earned the title of ‘Mr Airtime’ after he assisted community members and students with data when Covid-19 hit our shores. This enabled family members to keep in touch, help persons with job searches, and students to continue their studies.

More and more students needed airtime as they had to do the bulk of their studies online and used a lot of data, thus his focus turned to them. This journey also paved the way for Mr Airtime in establishing a non-profit company (NPC) in Thabazimbi, called Airtime Senyolo.

As part of Senyolo’s #HelpAStudent campaign, Mr Airtime is currently assisting four university students with a R500 monthly airtime allowance for a period of six months.

The students, who are registered for their tertiary studies, were selected for this allowance on Monday 30 January by proving their registration and giving a satisfactory explanation as to how they will utilise the allowance.

Mr Airtime has also expressed that he plans to donate two laptops to the top performing students from this initiative at the end of the year!
