Man swept away by current 

Koedoeskop – A farmworker was swept away by a strong river current on Wednesday 1 March 2023 on Rietfontein farm in Koedoeskop. 

Other workers on the farm witnessed the occurrence and the employer immediately contacted emergency services for assistance. Thabazimbi Crisis Control Centre (TCCC), Thabazimbi Fire and Rescue (TFR), and Thabazimbi Community Policing Forum (CPF) responded.

The riverbank was searched on both sides, but the search yielded no results and had to be halted at around 19:30 due to low visibility. The search resumed on 2 March 2023 with the assistance of the Limpopo Search and Rescue Team as well as the water wing unit.

The search was stopped at around 12:30 after the scene was deemed unsafe due to the presence of hippos, crocodiles, and the strong river current.

Sadly, the body of the missing person was recovered at around 11:00 on 5 March 2023 by the Limpopo Search and Rescue Team with the support of the police’s airwing unit, TCCC and the deceased’s employer. Thank you to all who assisted with the search and rescue operation.
