Let kids be kids!

Thabazimbi/ Regorogile – The Thabazimbi Feed the Poor organisation showed their kids what fun is all about on Saturday 3 December 2022 at their premises in Regorogile where they hosted a day that focused on more than just the basics. 

Thabazimbi Feed the Poor is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that strives to provide love and care to underprivileged children and families.

On a daily basis, Thabazimbi Feed the Poor takes care of more than 100 children’s basic needs while adding Biblical principles to their daily lives. Despite the great task at hand, the NPO also tries to encourage, motivate, and uplift the children who rarely have a special occasion to smile for. 

Thirty good Samaritans from the Thabazimbi community made the day possible with the help of not only donations but also their time. Food donations of hotdogs, cooldrinks, cakes and cupcakes boosted the energy levels of the 120 children who attended the exhilarating day. 

After having a bite, the kids eagerly participated in the many fun activities, namely, the potato race, and apple and flour bobbing.

Games that especially stirred a lot of exciting laughter were the one-legged race, where the kids were divided into teams of two with each member’s leg tied to the other’s, and the tug-of-war which saw some adamant competitors; as soon as one team thought they had the upper hand, the other gave an even stronger tug back with a volunteer or two behind them. 

“Time is more valuable than anything else you can give someone. We thank each and every volunteer for their time, and each and every person for their dedicated donations and support throughout the year.

To put a smile on a disheartened child’s face is a true achievement to take to heart,” said Liezie le Roux, director of the NPO. 

After a thrillingly exhausting day, the kids rubbed their sleepy eyes while each received a much-needed goodie bag that contained some essential toiletries such as; a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, a comb, a roll of toilet paper, and a face and hand towel. 

Adding to this spirit of giving of oneself and elevating the little ones, a quote from Nelson Mandela comes to mind, “There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”
