SMALL TOWN UBUNTU [Letter to the editor]

Dwaalboom – I would like to say thank you to two Dwaalboom police officers, constable Mashavhakule and constable Monyane… My heroes!

I live in Johannesburg and spent some quality time in Thabazimbi for the weekend. The area experienced a lot of rainfall and created a lot of mud on the gravel roads. I was driving along the Dwaalboom gravel road on Sunday 22 November when the two officers passed me. Worried about the road ahead, they turned around to come and see if I was okay and found me stuck in the mud.

I did not have a rope to be towed out and these two gentlemen took it upon themselves to push my car out of the mud. It was not an easy task at all – but they kept on until they got me out. They then drove with me to make sure I got to the tar road safely.

They embodied what the police stand for and I was humbled to meet them. They were friendly, polite, and put me at ease in my panicked state.

I want to convey my gratitude to them once again, I do not know what I would have done without these two stars.
