PRETTY IN PURPLE

Thabazimbi – Each year from late September to November, Jacaranda trees drape the lovely town of Thabazimbi.

Although Pretoria is known as ‘Jacaranda City’, the purple blossoms against the beautiful mountains surrounding Thabazimbi creates a tranquil picture. This familiar and magnificent view is etched into the hearts of the Thabazimbi community.

Jacarandas are indigenous to South America, but their history in South Africa can be traced back to as early as 1880 when they were imported from Argentina and Brazil. Although you are not allowed to plant a new Jacaranda tree because it is an invasive tree, the established Jacarandas have stood their ground in Thabazimbi and will continue to embrace the town with their purple blossoms.
