Did you know?
Thabazimbi’s very name tells a story! Derived from the Setswana words thaba (mountain) and dintshepe (iron), it means “mountain of iron.” The town was founded in 1931 when massive iron ore deposits were discovered in the Kransberg range. Today, Thabazimbi remains proudly known for its iron mining heritage, while also standing as a gateway to the Marakele National Park – where elephants, rhinos, and vultures roam against the backdrop of the very mountains that gave the town its name.
