Waterberg – Police women proved their strength in law enforcement during a two-day Operation Basadi, held on Friday and Saturday, 29–30 August 2025, across Pienaarsrivier, Northam and Thabazimbi.

Led by MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, and Waterberg District Commissioner, major general Shamrhomba Masingi, the female-driven operation tackled crime through roadblocks, stop-and-searches, tracing suspects, liquor and traffic law enforcement, and public awareness campaigns.

The joint effort, supported by male counterparts and various stakeholders, resulted in 59 arrests, including 24 for contravening the Immigration Act, four for theft out of motor vehicles, and two for selling liquor without a licence. Police also confiscated liquor and copper. In addition, R27,400 worth of traffic fines were issued.

Over 1,000 vehicles and more than 2,200 people were searched, with nearly 200 pamphlets handed out to raise awareness about safety and crime prevention.
