Van der Walt Assault Case Postponed to October
Thabazimbi – The wait for justice continues for Leon and Monique van der Walt as the assault case against Andrew Wynand Hoffman was once again postponed. The matter was scheduled for hearing on Thursday, 28 August 2025, but the court postponed proceedings to 27 October 2025.
The case centres around the alleged violent assault on Leon van der Walt in September 2024, an incident that has left him and his wife Monique navigating a drawn-out legal journey filled with procedural delays and shifting timelines.
At the heart of the current proceedings lies Section 105A of the Criminal Procedure Act, which allows the state and the accused to negotiate a plea and sentence agreement. This provision enables the accused to plead guilty in exchange for a predetermined sentence, potentially sparing both parties the time and expense of a full trial.
For the Van der Walts, each delay deepens the emotional toll. Yet despite the setbacks, they remain resolute, holding onto faith and by the support of their community as they continue their pursuit of justice.
