Northam – As the Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) reached the halfway mark of the 2019 Integrated Development Planning (IDP) and budget process, mayor John Michael Fischer and his team brace themselves for a further week of vigorous public participation meetings.

The fifth meeting was held at Northam Lapa on 20 February.

The purpose of the roadshows is to prepare a strategic development plan, instrumental in guiding all planning, management, investment development and implementation of decisions that takes into account input from community and stakeholders across TLM’s municipal area.

During the meeting, the community had the opportunity to ask questions which were addressed by councillor George Ramogoga.

So far, the planned meetings have been successful. “Taking local government to the people will never be a walk in the park, but it is not only a legislative requirement but a commitment that we have made as the leadership of TLM, to ensure that we continue to engage with the people and give public participation practical meaning,” said mayor John Michael Fischer.

Northam Rate Payers Association (NRPA) chairperson David Gouveia urged the community to work together and pay their municipal accounts since less than 30% of Northam do so.
