Northam – On Wednesday 27 June, three suspects who hijacked a woman with her baby in the car, were beaten to a pulp. They were caught by taxi drivers whilst trying to escape, said lieutenant colonel Jeoffrey Ramatsitsi, Northam station commander.

The three are under police guard in hospital where they are recuperating from injuries sustained when the community took the law into their own hands.

They hijacked the woman outside the Northam Pick n Pay. When they realised that there was a three-month-old baby in the car, the suspects allegedly threw the baby out of the moving vehicle.

However, they couldn’t get too far as taxi drivers who witnessed the hijacking gave chase. The hijackers lost control of the vehicle and crashed. All three suspects were caught and brought back to the scene of their crime.

They were met by an angry community. At the time of going to print, the baby was in hospital, condition unknown.
