Northam – Northam will have a 5 and 10 km fun run on its annual calendar following the success of the first fun run hosted on 1 May, thanks to Rene Mouton, manager of the Plaza Mall.

The fun run was initially the brain child of Petrus and Marline, who due to health problems enlisted the services of Mouton who enrolled Capitec bank as main co-sponsors.

Other companies who threw their weight behind the initiative include Platinum Bushvelder, Hydro Corner, Build it, M&J Food Town, Northam Filling Station, Roots Butchery, Edgars Active and Master Cars.

The fun run attracted more than 300 entries and according to organisers there could even have been more entrants, were it not for the current bus strike which made it difficult for interested participants who utilise public transport.

“We look forward to next year’s fun run which will be bigger and better!” Rene Mouton told Platinum Bushvelder.

The fun run also had positive spin-offs in the form of business for small to medium enterprises. There were 70 stalls that sold a variety of foodstuffs to the runners and supporters.

Art and craft traders also made a roaring success selling to visitors of the fun run.  “I couldn’t believe how much profit we have made today,” Mari Meintjes told Platinum Bushvelder.  “I received so many orders for Mothers Day as most of my arts and crafts were sold out  early. We are blessed!” Mary Ann Henning said.
