Setaria – The Northam Platinum Rhinos Rugby Club delivered a weekend of rugby heroics on Saturday, 7 June 2025, proving their grit against top-tier competition. 

In a thrilling friendly, the Rhinos’ first team held the professional Currie Cup side, Falcon Rugby Union, to a dramatic draw. 

“For us to end in a draw against them is a very big achievement,” said assistant coach Flip de Kock. “They are a professional team with 35 contracted players who play rugby for a living.” Tries came from Khwezi Mkhafu, AJ Fredericks, Big Fish Simanga, and two from Lindokuhle Welemu, with Jaylen James adding the rest via his reliable boot. 

Meanwhile, the Rhinos’ third team stormed to a 52–10 victory over Noordelikes Rugby Club in the Limpopo North League, and the second team dominated Noordelikes’ first team 62–20. 

After a short break, the Rhinos will return to action on 27 June in the Waterberg League against Nylstroom.
