Thabazimbi – The assault trial of André Hoffman, accused of viciously attacking Leon van der Walt, faced another delay on Wednesday 9 April 2025, with court proceedings postponed yet again — this time to 7 May 2025.

The hearing was set for plea and trial, but hit a halt when Hoffman’s attorney withdrew from the case. Hoffman has now requested legal aid, but was denied due to his current employment status. He told the court he needs until the end of April to pay for a private attorney.

The State Prosecutor voiced frustration, reminding the court that the case has been dragging since 30 September 2024, delaying justice. The judge agreed to one final postponement — but warned Hoffman that no further delays will be accepted. He must return on 7 May with legal representation.

Leon’s journey has been one of pain and perseverance following the brutal 24 September 2024 assault. The community continues to rally around him and his wife Monique, offering strength as they pursue justice.
