SA – Vehicle theft remains a critical issue in South Africa, with approximately 70,000 vehicles stolen annually. This staggering figure highlights the ongoing challenge of combating vehicle-related crimes in the country.

The types of vehicles targeted vary widely, ranging from compact cars and luxury sedans to commercial trucks. The high demand for specific models, coupled with the lucrative resale market for parts, continues to fuel these criminal activities.

Mike Bolhuis, specialist investigator in serious violent crimes, economic crimes, and cybercrimes, emphasises the importance of public awareness and preventive measures. “Owners of high-risk vehicles should take extra precautions, such as installing tracking devices, using secure parking facilities, and ensuring comprehensive insurance coverage,” he advises.
