Dr. said: ‘move if you can’t fix it!’
Thabazimbi – A long-standing nightmare for a family in Judith Street, Thabazimbi, has finally come to an end after more than a month of living with a sewage disaster in their yard. The incident began in mid-December 2024, when a manhole behind the family’s home started overflowing with foul-smelling sewage.
The house, which had been built over the manhole, saw the sewage spilling into the yard, creating a serious health hazard for the elderly couple and their son, who owns the property. The family, enduring this situation since 14 December 2024, reached out to the Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) multiple times. Despite repeated promises that they would send a team to investigate, the situation only worsened. As the days passed, the sewage continued to flow, creating an unbearable stench and unsanitary conditions.
The son fell ill due to the unhygienic conditions. “My son even had to go to the doctor because of this,” said his mother. In response, the doctor advised: “Move if you can’t fix it!”
Finally, after a month of distress, Thabazimbi Local Municipality arrived at the property last week and managed to fix the manhole, putting an end to the sewage spill. “Thank you, TLM!” the family exclaimed, relieved to finally have their yard back in a liveable state.
