True to their 'We Care' value, Amandelbult Complex in collaboration with the Department of Social Development and Gift of the Givers distributed food parcels to community members of Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela, Ramokokastad, Moses Kotane, Thabazimbi and Sebilong on 19 June as part of their response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The food parcel distribution programme brings relief to vulnerable families within our host communities who are faced with various challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic and find it hard to sustain themselves.

The initiative supports the South African government to not only combat the spread of the coronavirus, but to also give relief to those who are severely affected by the pandemic.

“The COVID-19 outbreak has immensely disrupted the social conditions and livelihoods of our host communities. Not only did we distribute the food parcels, we also made use of the opportunity to educate our communities on new ways of adapting to the effects of this pandemic,” said socio-economic development officer Grace Makgai.

“The Department of Social Development provided great leadership and the collaboration with all stakeholders was excellent. It enabled effective and efficient distribution of food parcels. This initiative was a powerful mitigation measure against the negative effects of COVID-19 – addressing food security for the vulnerable whilst ensuring minimal contact and therefore reduced exposure to all involved,” said stakeholder engagement manager Kaitumela Letebele.
