Northam – A cash in transit (CIT) vehicle was ambushed by roughly eight suspects on the R510 close to Northam on Monday, 23 October.

The suspects cornered the CIT vehicle and opened fire on them in broad daylight. The van finally came to a standstill after the shower of bullets. The suspects quickly and proficiently applied explosive devices and blew up the van next to the road.

An undisclosed amount of bags filled with cash were stolen.

Unfortunately, the two security guards were shot and sustained gun wounds. They are currently recuperating.

“A golden-coloured Ford Ranger double-cab bakkie approached the G4S security vehicle close to the Monono turnoff. The incident occurred at about 08h15, about 2km from Northam on the R510 from Mogwase’s direction,” says colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Police spokesperson.

Investigations continue.
