Northam – Northam Platinum’s rugby team, the unstoppable Rhinos, once again raised the company flag high, claiming the 2019 South Africa Mining Sports Association (SAMSA) Rugby Tournament Cup when they hosted the games at Setaria Sports Grounds from Wednesday 3 July to Friday 5 July.

The three-day tournament saw mines from different provinces of South Africa battling it out in a round-robin format.

The tournament was a cruise for the Rhinos, winning all their matches and stretching a huge gap between the scores at every game

. The mine’s Paul Lindenberg was named ‘man of the match’ at the finals, with Estehan Visagie and William Thulare each scoring six tries and being awarded ‘top try scorers’ for the tournament. Visagie was the ‘best forward’ and Thulare, the ‘player of the tournament’.

Following a speech of gratitude by the financial services manager of Northam Platinum Lusanda Sam, chief executive officer (CEO) of SAMSA Letsebele Koloi thanked the players for participating safely and Northam Platinum for hosting the tournament.

Northam Platinum looks forward to hosting the tournament again in 2021.
