Regorogile/ Thabazimbi – The Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) in cooperation with stakeholders, held a youth against drugs and substance abuse event on 17 June.

The get-together was held in collaboration with the Thabazimbi Fraternal Ministry, sector departments and local stakeholders in commemoration of Youth Day.

The awareness campaign was held at the Regorogile Multipurpose Sports Centre and Regorogile Sports grounds respectively.

“Drug abuse is a national problem that cannot be fought alone. The youth is most at risk for drug abuse.

The police, residents, companies, churches and the wider community must stand together to combat the scourge of drugs in our community,” said TLM speaker Bertie Joubert.

“When the community, municipality, government, police and Community Policing Forums (CPFs) work together, we will be able to rid our communities of drugs,” he added.

The TLM is in the process of establishing a Thabazimbi Youth Forum – in cooperation with stakeholders.

“I urge parents to never turn a blind eye toward their children – not for drugs or even alcohol.

We need to be conscious and progressive in our drive to propel this country to prosperity,” Bertie said.

The Youth Day celebrations were well attended by locals. TLM mayor councillor JM Fischer handed over medals to winning soccer and netball teams.
