Thabazimbi – The refurbishment of a 11kv substation in Thabazimbi will go a long way in enhancing the supply of electricity in the area. This sub-station is expected to improve the local economy.

Thaba Village substation was officially opened on Friday 24 May by Thabazimbi Local Municipality mayor, councillor John Fischer. The facility is one of two substations which supplies 80% of the households in Thabazimbi with electricity.

The mayor expressed confidence that unplanned electricity cuts and interruptions in town and parts of Regorogile would now be a thing of the past.

“We still encourage residents to save electricity by switching off appliances that are not being used, especially in the evenings when the demand for power is usually much higher,” he said. “

The substation belongs to the community, so they must report those who commit cable theft or connect to the grid illegally.”

The refurbishment of the substation was made possible by funding from the Department of Energy through the municipal infrastructure support agency (MISA).
